Our mistakes leave a memory we try to shift in vain
In our hearts or on our skin it’s there to stay
You might think that you’re invisible but you’re still leaving tracks
You can run no matter how far
Turn around and there you are
Yeah, it reads like a map
Written over my face
Of the places I’ve been
Though I may not be great
I’m in pretty good shape
For the shape that I’m in
The mistakes that I made
I will take to the grave
Saying never again
But it might have to wait
I’m in pretty good shape
For the shape that I’m in
There were times I heard the whisper of a bullet whizzing by
Didn’t even realize how close I came
And I fooled myself forever that I’d made the Great Escape
You can run no matter how far
Turn around and there you are
Yeah, it reads like a map
Written over my face
Of the places I’ve been
Though I may not be great
I’m in pretty good shape
For the shape that I’m in
The mistakes that I made
I will take to my grave
Saying never again
But it might have to wait
I’m in pretty good shape
For the shape that I’m in
Could use forgiveness
But I’m not sure who to ask
How big a sin is too much fun?
Looking back on it
There were things I could’ve changed
But why try to hide what I’ve become?
